Orlando, Fla.- March 15, 2015-The duo of Ariana Shemms (Goshen, Conn.) and Kelsey Whelpley (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) won their first doubles match of the spring on Sunday to lead the Springfield College women's tennis team, which opened up its spring break trip with a 7-2 setback to Connecticut College2. 

Shemms and Whelpley defeated Connecticut College's Jilliam Brigandi and Emily White by a score of 8-4.

Fiona Stickney (Bayport, N.Y.) overpowered Aneeka Kalia 6-3, 6-1 in No. 6 singles play.  Shemms battled in the No. 4 singles slot, but fell short of Susanna Studwell Studwell 5-7, 4-6.

Springfield will return to the courts on Monday at 11:30 am as it takes on Luther.
