Women's Tennis Bested By Babson, 5-0, In NEWMAC Championship Quarterfinals

Babson Park, Mass. - October 19, 2016 - The Springfield College women's tennis program closed out its fall season on Wednesday night, as the sixth-seeded Pride fell to third-seeded Babson College in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Quarterfinals.

With the loss, Springfied, which qualified for the NEWMAC Tournament for a program-record fourth-straight season, dropped to 7-6 with the setback.    Under the direction of second-year head coach Chad Stoloff, it was an incredibly successful fall for the Pride, as it strung together six-straight victories in September, marking the first time since 1996 that such a steak occurred.  Additionally, Springfield recently won a title at the NEWITT's for the first time in Division III program history.

The Beavers took all three points in doubles play, with Springfield's No. 2 doubles team of Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) and Rebecca Link (Norwalk, Conn.) and the No. 3 squad of Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) each dropping 8-1 decisions.

Babson needed just two points in singles play to clinch the decision, and did so at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots with 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 wins respectively.  Etter held a 6-3, 0-1 advantage at the No. 5 spot for Springfield before the match was called.
