Men's Gymnastics Records Season-Best Team Score in Sunday Matinee With Army

Springfield, Mass. - March 6, 2016 - Led by a season-best rings rotation, the Springfield College men's gymnastics program bolstered a season-high team score of 410.000 in a meet against Army on Sunday afternoon in Blake Arena.

Despite a dominant performance from Army, which also posted a season-high team score of 423.150 in the victory, the Pride recorded a rotational score of 68.600 in the rings, with three student-athletes producing career-high marks.

Standout senior Jon Zirna (East Amherst, N.Y.) had a dominant day for Springfield, as he posted a career-best all-around score of 84.600, finishing behind Jesse Glenn from Army, who produced a score of 87.100. Zirna had season-best performances in the floor exercise, pommel horse, vault, high bar and a career-best score of 13.950 on the rings. The Pride also received an impressive performance from sophomore Chris Graff (Old Bridge, N.J.), who recorded career-high scores in the rings, vault and parallel bars.

Starting on the floor exercise, Zirna posted a 14.350 to take fourth overall, while junior Nick Jama (Westfield, Mass.) recorded a career-high score of 14.300 on his routine to take fifth. On the pommel horse, Zirna took first overall with a score of 15.200, just shy of his school record mark of 15.250, while Graff finished in third with a score of 14.000.

On the rings, Graff took third overall with a career mark of 14.400, while classmate Joshua Dieker (Oviedo, Fla.) followed suit with a season-best 14.300 to take fourth. Junior Ryan Kearns (McHenry, Ill.) also had a career-best score of 13.400, along with Zirna's 13.950.

Competing for the first time on vault, Graff notched a 13.400, while on the parallel bars, sophomore Mike Grimaldi (Middletown, N.J.) produced a career-high 14.400 to win the event, while Zirna followed with a 14.300 to finish the rotation.

Up next, Springfield will host Navy on Sunday, March 13 in Blake Arena at 1 p.m.
