Steidler's Career Night Pushes Women's Lacrosse Past Emerson, 13-8

Boston, Mass. - April 27, 2016 - In its last contest of the regular-season, a career-best six-goal performance from sophomore midfielder Kristen Steidler (Somers, Conn.) helped the Springfield College women's lacrosse team to a 13-8 victory in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Wednesday night at Rotch Field.

With the win, Springfield improves to 11-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play, and will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Championship Tournament, hosting Emerson on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Stagg Field in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals. The Lions cap off the 2016 regular season with an overall record of 9-7, while posting a mark of 4-4 in league play.

Along with Steidler's six goals, sophomore attack Shelby Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) continued her strong play in 2016, as she posted two goals and added a pair of assists in the win, while senior attack and reigning NEWMAC Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Year, Heather Raniolo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) posted a pair of goals in the win. Between the pipes, junior goalkeeper Gabby Anderson (Mahopac, N.Y.) posted five saves in the victory.

For the Lions, Emily Quinn (Dartmouth, Mass.) registered five points including four goals and an assist, while Meredith Weber (West Caldwell, N.J.) notched three goals in the setback. In net, Victoria Kanaris (Haworth, N.J.) and Kristina Modica (East Moriches, N.Y.) split halves, as Modica notched four stops over 30 minutes of play.

The Pride jumped out to an early 4-0 lead over the first 10 minutes of play, as Heather Raniolo converted a free-position chance just 5:00 into the contest, before Steidler and Bianca Raniolo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) score goals just 2:12 apart to extend the Pride's lead to three. With 20:00 left in the first, Corsano found the back of the net, before the Lions cut its deficit in half with goals from Weber and Quinn to make it 4-2, Springfield, with 12:59 to go in the stanza.

Following back-to-back strikes from Steidler, including burying a feed from Corsano, to help the Pride regain its four-goal lead, Quinn kept the Lions within three, but Corsano and Steidler answered with goals to make it 8-3, Springfield, with 4:14 left in the half. Quinn would add another with seven seconds left in the half to make it 8-4, Pride, at the break.

Heather Raniolo and Kristina Krull (Leicester, Mass.) opened the second half with back-to-back tallies, giving the maroon and white a 10-4 lead, before Emerson cut its deficit to three with a string of three goals from Quinn and Weber.

From there, Stephanie Hyslip (Hanson, Mass.) finished a pass from Corsano to stop the run, before Steidler added her fifth of the game with 10:42 to play to make it 12-7, Springfield. Emerson would strike with 6:36 to play, but Steidler would seal the win with her sixth of the game with 5:31 to play to give the Pride the win.
