Springfield, Mass. - April 9, 2016 - The Springfield College men's tennis program saw its five-game winning streak come to a halt, as it fell to MIT on Saturday afternoon at the Appleton Courts.
With the loss, the Pride is now 6-4 overall, and 1-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), while the Engineers improve to 6-3 on the year and 1-0 in the league.
The Pride opened the day falling in No. 1 singles, as Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) fell to Alex Cauneac (Severna Park, Md.), 6-1, 6-2, before Tyler Barr (Auburn Township, Ohio) bested Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.), 6-0, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. The Pride would fall at No. 3 singles, as Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) lost to Sean Ko (Danville, Calif.), 6-0, 6-1 and at No. 4 singles, where Dennis Garcia (Corpus Christi, Texas) beat Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.), 6-0, 6-0. Finising up singles, Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) and Zack Keene (Feeding Hills, Mass.) both fell to give MIT a 6-0 lead in the match.
The Pride suffered three-straight losses in doubles as well, as DeVarennes and Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.) fell at No. 1, 8-3, Romaine and Honda fell for the first time this season, 9-8 (2), and Beynor and Grant fell, 8-2.
