Men's Tennis Cruises Past Eastern Nazarene, 8-1

Springfield, Mass. - September 16, 2016 - Playing on Appleton Courts for the first time this season, the Springfield College men's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Eastern Nazarene on Friday afternoon.

The Pride opened up the match earning all three doubles points, led by a standout effort at the No. 2 spot, with Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) and Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.) winning by an 8-1 score.

Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) and Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) grinded out an 8-6 win at the top spot, while Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) and Chris Unger (Westfield, Mass.) battled back from an early break to take an 8-5 decision at No. 3.

In singles play, DeVarennes was tremendous, easing his way to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1.  Honda produced a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3, and Romaine was victorious at No. 3 by a 6-2, 7-6 (3) decision.

Additionally, a pair of Springfield matches went the distance with Danielwicz earning a 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 win at No. 4, and Zack Keene (Springfield, Mass.) registering a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory for the Pride at No. 6. 

The Pride will play again on Saturday when they travel to compete in the Connecticut College Tournament.
