Men's Tennis Opens Spring Break With 8-1 Victory Against Roger Williams

Orlando, Fla. - March 13, 2017 - The Springfield College men's tennis team kicked off their annual spring break trip with an 8-1 victory over Roger Williams on Monday afternoon.

The Pride improved to 3-1 on the season with the win.

Springfield swept doubles play, led by the top team of Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) and Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.) who posted an 8-1 victory.  Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) and Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) registered an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, and Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) and Chris Unger (Westfield, Mass.) prevailed by a 9-7 decision at No. 3.

DeVarennes was dominant at the No. 1 spot for singles, winning 6-0 and 6-2, while Danielewicz was equally as impressive, taking No. 3 singles by a 6-2, 6-0 decision.  Honda won at No. 2 singles by a 6-2, 6-3 score and Beynor took a point at No. 5 singles after a 6-4, 7-5 victory.  Grant was Springfield's other victory on the day, getting a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6.

Springfield will hit the courts again on Tuesday night when it faces Gettysburg at 6:30 pm.
