Men's Tennis Continues To Roll With 9-0 Win Over Western Connecticut

Springfield, Mass. - March 25, 2017 - A complete team effort helped the Springfield College power past visiting Western Connecticut State, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in the Springfield College Field House.

The Pride pushed its winning streak to seven matches, and now owns a 8-1 record for the first time since 1995, when the team started the year with a 9-0 record.

As they have for much of the season, Springfield's top three doubles team put forth a workmanlike effort, with the No. 2 doubles team of Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) and Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.), and the No. 3 team of Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) and Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) breezing their way to 8-0 wins.  The top doubles squad of Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) and Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) followed with an 8-1 triumph.

Head coach Chad Stoloff shuffled up the singles lineup for the Pride, and Chris Unger (Westfield, Mass.) posted the most impressive win, a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot.  At the No. 4 spot, Michael Marotta (Holton, Mass.) delivered a 6-0, 6-3 win, while Sean Quirk (Mashpee, Mass.) added a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5.  Both Grant and Zack Keene (Feeding Hills, Mass.) won by 6-4, 6-3 decisions at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively, and Corey Maznicki (Somers, Conn.) rounded out the match with a 8-3 win at No. 6.

Springfield will host Salem State on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
