Men's Tennis Delivers 5-2 Victory At Clark

Worcester, Mass. - April 19, 2017 - The Springfield College men's tennis team picked up a critical New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory on Wednesday afternoon as it bested host Clark, 5-2, at Corsash Tennis Courts. 

With the win, Springfield boosted its record to 11-4, 3-2 in conference play, while Clark is now 6-8, 0-2.

The match started with singles play and the Pride won four matches to take a 4-2 lead heading into doubles play.  Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) eased his way to a 6-1, 6-3 win at the top singles spot, while Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3.  Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) posted a 6-3, 7-6(3) victory for the Pride at No. 2, and Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) delivered a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5) win at No. 5 singles to bring the Pride within one point of clinching the match.

In doubles play, the top team of Romaine and Honda sealed the match for Springfield with a 8-4 at the No. 1 spot.  

Springfield will play its final regular-season home match on Saturday when it takes on Babson at 1:00 pm.
