Babson Takes Down Men's Tennis, 8-1, in Regular-Season Finale

Springfield, Mass. - April 22, 2017 - Despite a win at No. 2 doubles from Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) and Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.), the Springfield College men's tennis team fell to Babson, 8-1, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on Saturday at the Appleton Tennis Courts.

With the loss, the Pride is now 11-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while the Beavers improve to 9-8 on the year with a 4-1 record against league opponents.

DeVarrenes and Danielewicz won 9-8 at the No. 2 doubles slot over Ben Roque (Coral Gables, Fla.) and Ho Wang Alastair Ng (Hong Kong) to take a point off the Beavers, as Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) and Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) fell at the No. 1 spot to Alberto De Mendiola (San Jose, Costa Rica) and Brandon Rosenbluth (Pound Ridge, N.Y.), 8-3. Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) and Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) fell at No. 3 to Dan Levitan (Winter Park, Fla.) and Dylan Levy (Miami, Fla.), 8-4.

DeVarrenes fell to De Mendiola at the No. 1 singles spot, 6-0, 6-1, while Romaine put up a good fight with Rosenbluth at No. 2, but fell 7-5, 6-3. Honda suffered a 6-2, 6-4, defeat toe Levitan at No. 3, Roque edged Danielewicz, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4, Ng beat Grant, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, at No. 5 and Connor Chin (Lexington, Mass.) wrapped up with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Chris Unger (Westfield, Mass.).

Next, Springfield College will wait to see who it will play in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals on Saturday, April 29.
