Springfield, Mass. - September 16, 2017 - The Springfield College women's tennis team posted a 7-2 victory over American International College to kickoff the 2017 campaign on Appleton Courts on Saturday afternoon.
Competing against AIC, a NCAA Division II institution located just down the road for Springfield College, the Pride posted five singles victories and a pair of wins in doubles in its season opener.
Springfield picked up an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles from Rachel Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.Y.) and Hailey Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.), while Addie Kendall (Lakeville, Mass.) and Rachel Litchfield (Northbridge, Mass.) delivered an 8-3 win at the No. 2 spot.
In singles play, both Ahlmeyer and Amanda Hill (East Longmeadow, Mass.) won by 6-0, 6-0 decisions at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, while Kendall turned in a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) produced a 6-2, 6-1 win playing at the top singles spot for Springfield, and Litchfield closed out the scoring with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 3.
Springfield will play again on September 26 when it travels to Rhode Island to face Johnson & Wales.
