Men's Tennis Clips Roger Williams, 5-4, In Florida Trip Opener

Orlando, Fla - March 12, 2018 - The Springfield College men's tennis team battled its way to a 5-4 win over Roger Williams on Monday afternoon in its first match in Florida as part of its annual Spring Break trip.

Springfield found itself down by a 2-1 margin after doubles action, despite a solid 8-4 victory at the top spot by Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) and Court Honda (Marioka, Japan).   In singles play, Romaine cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, while Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) made quick work of his opponent at No. 3 by a 6-2, 7-5 decision.

Honda then followed for the Pride with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles, and Chris Unger (Westfield, Mass.) clinched the win for Springfield by prevailing, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 5 spot.

Springfield will resume action on Tuesday when it faces St. Scholastica at 12:30 pm.
