Men's Tennis Grinds Out 5-4 Win Over Western Connecticut State

Springfield, Mass. - March 28, 2018 - The Springfield College men's tennis team battled to a 5-4 non-conference victory over Western Connecticut State on Wednesday afternoon at Appleton Courts.

Springfield has now strung together three-straight victories to improve to 5-3 on the season.

The Pride got off to a great start, picking up a pair of wins in doubles play to own a 2-1 advantage. Zack Keene (Agawam, Mass.) and Steven Ludtke (Feeding Hills, Mass.) cruised to an 8-2 victory at the top spot before Freddie Moffa (Granby, Conn.) and Corey Maznicki (Somers, Conn.) teammed for an 8-5 win at No. 3.

In singles play, Sean Quirk (Mashpee, Mass.) was the first one off the court as he earned a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 5 for the Pride.  After WCSU answered back with a win at No. 6 singles, Ludtke delivered a 6-4, 7-6(4) victory at No. 4 singles.  The Colonials then earned a win at No. 1 singles, only to have Moffa seal the non-conference win as he produced a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 win for the hosts at the No. 2 spot. 

Springfield will be back in action on Friday when it hosts Trinity at 4 pm.
