No. 25 MIT Holds Off Men's Tennis

Springfield, Mass. - April 21, 2018 - The Springfield College men's tennis team was bested by nationally-ranked MIT, 9-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) at Appleton Courts on Saturday.

The Engineers, who were 25th in the latest national rankings, are now 8-6, 5-0 in conference play, while the Pride slipped to 6-8, 1-4.

In doubles play, Springfield's best output came from the top team of Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) and Court Honda (Morioka, Japan), as the duo dropped and 8-2 decision.

Honda battled tough at the No. 2 spot for the Pride before ultimatley falling by a 7-5, 6-2 score.  Romaine was downed by a 6-0, 6-3 margin at No. 1, while Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) was defeated by a 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3.

At No. 6, Freddie Moffa (Granby, Conn.) was edged, 6-3, 6-0, and Zach Keene (Agawam, Mass.) and Chris Unger (Westfield, Mass.) fell by the scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.  

The Pride will conclude its regular season on Wednesday when it hosts Clark at 4 pm in a critical NEWMAC showdown.
