Worcester, Mass. - April 24, 2018 - The Springfield College women's tennis picked up an important 8-1 win at Clark University in its regular-season finale on Tuesday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
The win improves Springfield to 8-7, 3-5 in conference play and allowed the Pride to secure the No. 6 seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Championship.
The Pride was able to earn two points in doubles play, as the No. 1 squad of Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) produced an 8-2 win and Rachel Litchfield (Northridge, Mass.) and Rachel Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J.) came through with an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
Both Ahlmeyer and Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) were dominant at the No. 6 and No. 5 spots in singles play, cruising to 6-0, 6-0 wins. Etter breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 and Addie Kendall (Lakeville, Mass.) delivered a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 4. Litchfield came through with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4 for the Pride, and Freadman put forth a gritty effort at No. 1 which resulted in a 6-7(4), 6-2, 10-7 win.
This upcoming Saturday, Springfield will hit the road to face Wellesley in the NEWMAC Championship Quarterfinals.
