Clark Pulls Away From Men's Tennis, 6-3

Springfield, Mass. - April 25, 2018 - In a match where the winner clinched a spot in the upcoming New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, the Springfield College men's tennis team was bested by Clark, 6-3, in the Springfield College Field House on Wednesday afternoon.

Clark improves to 4-11, 2-4 to earn the No. 5 seed in the upcoming conference postseason tournament, while Springfield's season comes to a close with a 6-9, 1-5 mark.

In doubles play, the top team of Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) and Court Honda (Morioka, Japan) eased their way to an 8-0 win, only to have the Cougars win the other two matches, including an important 9-8(5) win at the No. 2 spot over Zack Keene (Agawam, Mass.) and Steven Ludtke (Feeding Hills, Mass.).

Honda and Romaine continued their impressive play into singles, with Honda cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 and Romaine earning a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1.  However, those would be the only two points that Springfield would muster, as the Pride's Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) was bested by a 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 decision at the No. 3 spot in the next closest contest.  Keene was edged, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4, Chris Unger (Westfield, Mass.) was topped 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5, and Freddie Moffa (Granby, Conn.) was defeated, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
