Box Score Wellesley, Mass. - October 12, 2019 - The Springfield College women's soccer program recorded a 7-0 shutout victory over Wellesley on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
The Pride have now won five-straight contests making their record 9-2-1 and 4-1 in NEWMAC play. The Blues drop to 4-8-1 overall and 1-4 in NEWMAC competition. The Pride registered 17 shots on goal in the game, while Wellesley only put three attempts on goal. Bridget O'Connor (Hanover, Mass.) needed to make just three saves in the win for Springfield.
In the first half, the Pride received all of their offense from Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.), who scored three goals in just 11 minutes and 42 seconds. At 9:10, Dale scored her first goal off a feed from Adalia Malick (Bristol, Conn.) to give Springfield the early lead. Then, at 18:08, Chrissy Conley (Bristol, R.I.) found Dale in stride for another strike, and two minutes later, Sara Swetland (Manchester, N.H.) dished the ball to Dale for her third goal of the game, The first half hat trick marked the fifth time Dale has tallied three goals in a game in her collegiate career.
Springfield offense did not slow down in the second half. At 45:36, Maggie Barden (Swampscott, Mass) benefitted from another Swetland assist and scored to add to the Springfield lead at 4-0. At 67:55, Swetland earned her first goal of the game, courtesy of a Heather Jennato (Hookset, N.H.) assist, and in the 76th minute, Malick came through with an unassisted strike to build the Springfield lead to 6-0. Finally, at 80:14, Kellie Smith (Marshfield, Mass.) notched her first-career goal for the Pride allowing the Pride to coast to a 7-0 victory.
The Pride return to action on Monday when they travel to Amherst College to matchup with the Mammoths at 4 pm.
