Providence, R.I. - September 13, 2019 - Despite taking the opening set, the Springfield College women's volleyball team was upended by nationally-ranked Johnson & Wales on Friday night.  The Wildcats prevailed 21-25, 25-22, 25-10, 25-15.

JWU, who was ranked fifth in the country in the most recent AVCA Division III National Poll, improved to 6-1, while the Pride slipped to 6-2 on the season.

Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) was outstanding in the match, racking up a match-best 17 kills at a .483 clip, while Bridget Walsh (Garrison, N.Y.) added 13 kills, four blocks, and three aces.  Anagabrielle Sanchez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) produced a team-best 18 digs and Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) handed out 37 assists and chipped in nine digs.

Trailing 20-18 in the first set, Springfield closed out the frame on a 7-1 surge, fueled by two kills and a set-sealing ace from Walsh as the Pride prevailed, 25-21.  Bancroft was especially impressive in the opening set, putting away seven of Springfield's 16 kills.

Springfield carried that momentum into the second set, racing out to an 11-5 lead, only to have the hosts battle back to even things up at 20-apiece.  The Wildcats would score the next two points and hold on for the 25-22 win.

The Pride was limited to a -.065 hitting percentage in the third set as it was bested by a 25-10 mark, while in the fourth, JWU hit at a .419 clip to earn a 25-15 win.

On Saturday, Springfield will conclude the Johnson & Wales Invitational on Saturday when it plays Roger Williams and Stevens beginning at 11 am.
