Women's Volleyball Pulls Away From Skidmore In Four Sets

Box Score

Brooklyn, N.Y. - September 6, 2019 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team earned a four-set victory against Skidmore in their opening match of the NYU Invitational on Friday night in the Brooklyn Athletic Center.  The Pride won by the scores of 25-17, 23-25, 25-16, 25-11.

Springfield is now 4-0 on the year and had three student-athletes either tie or set career-high marks for kills in tonight's win.   Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) tied her career-best mark of 18 kills as she produced a .517 hitting percentage out of the middle, while both Demi Spanos (West Harrison, N.Y.) and Bridget Walsh (Garrison, N.Y.) each set new career-high totals with 13 and 12 kills, respectively.  Gabrielle Bradley (Fairfax, N.Y.) added nine kills, Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) handed out 43 assists to go along with 10 digs, and Briana Tovar (Tucson, Ariz.) ripped a career-best five aces and chipped in a match-high 15 digs.

Bradley was sensational in the opening set, turning in eight kills to lead the Pride's offense. After the Pride raced out to a 9-1 lead following a kill from Spanos, the Thoroughbreds would battle back to knot the frame at 15.  However, Springfield closed out the stanza on a 10-2 push, including a 6-0 surge fueled by tough serving from Anagabrielle Sanchez (Caguas, Puerto Rico), en route to the 25-17 win.

Springfield fell behind 6-2 in the early part of the second set, but would regain the lead at 17-16 after a Skidmore attack error.  The Thoroughbreds responded with three-straight points as the Pride burned a timeout.  A kill from Spanos and ace by Claire Dorr (Massapequa, N.Y.) would even things one final time before Skidmore pulled out the 25-23 win in a set where the Pride hit just .083.

The Pride's offense heated up in the third set, hitting at a .400 clip.  Behind seven kills from Bancroft, Springfield jumped out to a 19-8 advantage and coasted to a 25-16 win.  The momentum carried into the fourth set, as three-consecutive aces from Tovar allowed the Pride to take an 8-1 advantage. Springfield would hold Skidmore to a -.083 hitting percentage and sealed the win with a 25-11 victory.

On Saturday, Springfield will square off with both Stockton and NYU beginning at 2 pm.
