Box Score Springfield, Mass. - January 11, 2020 - The Springfield College women's basketball fell to Babson College, 64-52, on Saturday afternoon in Blake Arena.
The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Pride and gives them a record of 9-6. Babson elevates to 7-5 on the year.
Alex Goslin (South Windsor, Conn.) led Springfield with 11 points, seven rebounds, and four helpers. Grace Dzindolet (Holliston, Mass.) and Sam Hourihan (Bridgewater, Mass.) each pitched in 10 points in the setback. The Pride shot 21-of-68 from the field and assisted on 18 of their made field goals while only committing 10 turnovers.
Babson College finished with four players in double figures with Katherine Tamulionis pacing the Beavers with 19 points, five assists, and two steals. Emily Bonifacic added a 13-point, 17-rebound double-double with Megan Bauman scoring 12 points to go along with five rebounds and a pair of assists. The Beavers outrebounded the Pride 50-31 and shot 42.1% from the field on 24-of-57 shooting.
Babson jumped out 13-4 lead over the Pride at the 6:03 mark as Nicole Hiller followed up her own miss for a mid range jumper. At 5:47, Lauren Rudolph (Franklin, Mass.) would find a cutting Goslin to make the score 13-6. With 4:07 remaining in the quarter, Hourihan would pump in jumper off a Goslin feed to slim the deficit to 17-10. The jumper by Hourihan would spark a 9-0 burst led by Dzindolet, who scored seven points, capping off the run with a three-pointer on the wing to tie the game at 17-17.
At 8:16 in the second quarter, the Beavers would go up 23-19 courtesy of a Shaye Galletta lay-in, but Hourihan would score in the post to make it a two point game with 7:56 remaining. At 1:30, Babson would complete a 9-0 run as Bauman would knock down a transition jumper and gain a 30-23 lead. With 1:04 left in the period, Rachel Vinton (Holden, Mass.) would drill a wing three to cut the deficit to 32-26. Rudolph would can another triple for the Pride with 31 seconds left in the half to make it a 34-29 deficit.
The Pride fell behind 42-35 after Tamulionis finished a layup in the paint with 4:05 remaining in the third quarter. At 2:04, Dzindolet tipped away a pass and threw it ahead to Emily Jacques (Auburn, Maine), who finished through contact to cut the deficit to just three at 45-42. A bucket from Jacqueline Jozefick and a pair of free throws from Galletta would push the Beavers lead back up to 49-42 at the end of the third quarter.
Springfield would start the fourth quarter on an 8-3 run bringing the deficit within one possession, at 52-50, after Jacques advanced the ball to Goslin for the pull up jump shot with 6:40 remaining in the fourth quarter. From there, the Beavers would put together a 7-0 run that would elevate their lead to 59-50. A late Hourihan bucket would cut it to 57-52, but the Beavers would capitalize from the free throw line to seal the 64-52 victory for the Babson.
Springfield will return to action next Saturday, January 18 at 2 pm against Coast Guard for their first NEWMAC contest. The game will be played at Western New England University.
