Box Score Springfield, Mass. - January 29, 2020 - The Springfield College women's basketball team earned a 85-60 victory over Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Wednesday evening in Blake Arena.
Springfield improves to 4-0 in the NEWMAC and 13-6 overall. Clark sits at 4-15 and 0-3 in the conference.
Grace Dzindolet (Holliston, Mass.) led Springfield with 19 points on 4-of-5 shooting from downtown and 6-of-9 overall. Alex Goslin (South Windsor, Conn.) put together a strong stat line of 12 points, seven assists, and five steals while Stephanie Lyons (Boston, Mass.) finished with 12 points of her own. Lauren Rudolph (Franklin, Mass.) finished with 11 points and five assists with Amanda Carr (West Haven, Conn.) producing 10 points off the bench. Springfield shot 13-of-25 from three for 52%. The Pride's 13 made three-pointers was the most in a gaem since February 12, 2011 when the Pride went 12-of-22 from deep in a 70-39 win over Clark.
Clark was paced by the game-high 25 points from Hannah Favloro while Virginia Benbow added 12 points in the setback. Springfield forced the Cougars to commit 29 turnovers on the evening.
Clark Univeristy opened up the game with an 11-5 advantage over the Pride after a Hallie Johnson triple with 7:33 remaining. Springfield opened up a 24-2 to close the quarter, off the hot shooting of Dzindolet, expanding their lead to 29-13 at the conclusion of the quarter. The Pride shot 62.5% from beyond the arc on 5-of-8 shooting.
Springfield continued the offensive pressure in the second quarter, adding to their lead. Rudolph broke through the zone and dished it to Amanda Carr (West Haven, Conn.) for the mid range jumper to give the Pride a 46-19 lead, which was their largest lead of the half, with 2:26 remaining in the half. To end the quarter, Virginia Benbow cashed in on a couple of buckets to trim into the Cougars deficit, but Madeline Fay (Braintree, Mass.) would finish a layup in traffic with three seconds remaining to give Springfield a 50-26 lead going into the break.
A three from Lyons with 5:25 remaining in the third quarter allowed the Pride to go up 64-32 with 5:25 left in the quarter, then, Dzindolet would knock down another triple at the three-minute mark to give the Pride their largest lead of the evening at 69-36. Springfield would eventually coast to the 85-60 win.
Springfield will travel to Emerson for a 1:00 pm matchup with the Lions.
