Box Score Springfield, Mass. - October 14, 2021 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team earned its second straight-set victory of the week as it cruised past Johnson & Wales on Thursday night in Blake Arena by the set scores of 25-15, 25-19, 25-8.
Springfield has now won its last five outings to improve to 16-4 on the season, while the Wildcats slipped to 13-6.
Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) controlled the middle with 14 kills on 21 errorless attempts for a .667 hitting percentage and also chipped in four blocks, while Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.) delivered 10 kills and eight digs. Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) led Springfield to a .304 team hitting percentage and was credited with 36 helpers in the win, while Jamie Albrecht (Selden, N.Y.) notched a career-high 14 digs. Kylie Wixted (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) finished the evening with six blocks to key a Springfield defense that limited JWU to a -.054 hitting percentage.
Consecutive kills in transition from Ashley Tanner (Manorville, N.Y.) allowed the Pride to take an 11-8 lead in the first as the Wildcats called for an early timeout. A kill from Albrecht pushed the lead to 19-13 and Bancroft buried an overpass to complete the 25-15 win. Both Bancroft and Tanner had five kills in the first set as Springfield hit .324 as a team.
Billet converted down the line to give Springfield a 6-2 lead in the second, but the visitors would battle back to take their first lead of the frame at 15-14. Springfield would respond with a 5-1 push, capped off by a huge block from Wixted and Albrecht as JWU called for a timeout. The Pride would close things out scoring six of the final nine points, as Billet blistered a hard-angle shot for his sixth kill of the set in the 25-19 win.
Springfield jumped all over Johnson & Wales to start the third, seizing a 14-2 lead after Wixted and Albrecht delivered another block on the pin. Springfield would hit .407 in the set, led by six kills from Bancroft, and benefitted from 11 JWU attack errors to ease their way to a 25-8 win.
The Pride will return to the court on Friday evening when it hosts Bates at 7 pm.
