Box Score Springfield, Mass. - October 23, 2021 - The Springfield College women's soccer program fell, 4-1, to Brandeis in their final non-conference match of the season at Brock-Affleck Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride drop to 6-6-2 on the season and Brandeis, who is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll, improves to 9-4-2. The Judges out shot Springfield, 19-10.
Seniors Caitlin Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.) and Bridget O'Connor (Hanover, Mass.) split time between the pipes and recorded a total of eight saves in the setback.
Hannah Bassan was credited with the victory for the Judges.
Makenna Hunt guided Brandeis to an early lead just ten minutes into the first half as the forward knocked in the first score at 4:48, then, crossed a ball to Juliette Carreiro for the strike in the 11th-minute, which boosted the advantage to 2-0 for the Judges. At 33:10, Jess Herman chipped in a goal from inside the box to make the lead 3-0 for the visitors. With a minute to the Judges looked to advance their lead as Yasla Ngoma put a shot on frame, however, Normolye scooped up the shot, letting the game go to halftime with a score of 3-0.
In the 50th-minute, the Judges looked to add to their total with shots on goal from Hunt and Sydney Lehart, yet, O'Connor made back-to-back saves to halt the Brandeis attack. At 60:40, the Pride received a strong opportunity as Cassidy Bailey (Monson, Mass.) aimed a shot towards the goal, but just narrowly missed right, which kept the deficit at 3-0 for Springfield. Brandeis could not get a shot past O'Connor, until the 74th-minute, when Lexi Krobath loft a shot in to push the lead to 4-0.
The Pride would cut into the Brandeis lead, in the 88th-minute, as Karly Suppicich (South Windsor, Conn.) spun around the keeper and knocked in the empty-net goal to make the score 4-1.
Springfield will return to New England Women's and Men's Atheltic Conference (NEWMAC) play as the Pride host Clark University on Wednesday, October 27.
