Women's Volleyball Downs Gordon, 3-1

Box Score

Wenham, Mass. - October 7, 2021 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team got back to its winning ways on Thursday night as it downed Gordon in four sets in a non-conference battle on Kanas Court. Set scores in favor of the Pride were 25-18, 25-18, 20-25, 25-20.

Springfield, which was once again receiving votes in the AVCA Division III National Coaches Poll, snapped its four-match slide to improve to 12-4 on the year.  The Fighting Scots slipped to 8-6.

Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) turned in a team-high 12 kills out of the middle and added three blocks, while Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.) registered a team-best 12 digs to go along with 11 kills.  Ashley Tanner (Manorville, N.Y.) contributed eight kills and Jamie Albrecht (Selden, N.Y.) chipped in six kills of her own.  Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) notched 34 assists and Abigail Wright (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) produced four service aces. The difference in the match was the Pride's pressure from the end line, as Springfield had 15 aces, its most in a match since September 11.

Holding a 15-14 lead in the first set, Springfield closed out the frame on a 10-4 run, as Wright delivered a pair of aces to key the push as the Pride took the 25-18 win.

Springfield stormed out to an 18-8 lead in the second following a kill by Bancroft, but the hosts would battle their way back with a 10-4 surge on their own to make it a 22-18 ballgame.  However, Springfield would get kills from Billet and Albrecht before a set-sealing ace from Labadorf gave the Pride a 2-0 set advantage.

Gordon seized an early 7-2 cushion in the third and would lead by as many as eight points.  The Pride would get no closer than three as the Fighting Scots held on for the 25-20 win to force a fourth set.

It was Springfield that got off to a quick start in the fourth, snagging a 5-1 lead to get things started. The Pride did not trail in the set, and holding on to a 20-18 lead, back-to-back hitting errors by Gordon forced the hosts into a timeout.  Down the stretch, Springfield would turn to Bancroft as she terminated three kills, including the match-winning swing for the 25-20 triumph.

This Saturday, Springfield will travel to Rhode Island for a tri-match with Roger Williams and UMass Boston beginning at 1 pm.
