Keene State Tops Men's Basketball

Keene, N.H. - November 20, 2021 - The Springfield College men's basketball team was defeated by Keene State, 93-57, in a non-conference clash on Saturday evening. 

The loss drops Springfield to 0-4 on the season, while the Owls boosted their record to 4-0.

Springfield was paced by 13 points from both Zeke Blauner (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) and Tre Hodge (Springfield, Mass.), while Cameron Garber (Billerica, Mass.) netted eight points and handed out four assists.  Springfield shot just 36.1% for the game as they connected on 22-of-61, including just 5-of-26 from beyond the arc.  Keene State held a 44-27 advantage on the glass, as they hauled in 15 offensive rebounds that resulted in 19 points.  The Owls scored 29 points off 18 Springfield turnovers and owned a 50-26 edge in points in the paint. Keene State had five players score in double figures, led by Jeff Hunter's 19 points off the bench.

The hosts jumped out to a 9-2 lead as the Pride called for a timeout at 16:43. A pair of free throws from Daryl Costa (Providence, R.) capped off a 6-0 push as Springfield pulled within 9-8 at 14:11, only to have Keene State rattle off a 16-0 surge over the next 5:13 to take a commanding 17-point edge.  The hosts would head into the halftime break leading 50-24 thanks to a 61.1% (22-36) shooting performance from the field.

Keene State's lead grew to 30 points early in the second half as they would pull away for the non-conference win. Hodge would account for nine points in 11 minutes of work in the second half, while Nick Bray (Hartford, Conn.) chipped in seven points.

Springfield will play next on December 1 when it travels to face Trinity in a 7 pm tilt.
