Springfield, Mass. - April 10, 2022 - The Springfield College women's tennis team picked up its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory of the season with a 9-0 triumph over visiting Emerson at Appleton Courts on Sunday.
The win lifted Springfield's record to 8-4-1 on the season and snapped its four-match slide.
Springfield took all three points in doubles play, with Veronica Fulgieri (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and Rielly Malz (Glastonbury, Conn.) cruising to an 8-1 win at No. 2, while Taylor Suozzo (Bedford, N.H.) and Gabriella Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) earned an 8-4 win at No. 1. The No. 3 team of Ramida Manataweewat (Thailand, Bangkok) and Kate Rosselli (Trumbull, Conn.) added an 8-5 victory at No. 3.
Malz led the way in singles play, coasting to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2, while Anastasia MacMaster (Westport, Mass.) turned in a 6-2, 6-4 performance at No. 6. Rosselli chipped in a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5 and Suozzo prevailed 7-6, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot. Heaney-Secord battled her way to a 7-6, 7-5 triumph in the top singles position and Manataweewat rallied her way to a 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3.
On Tuesday, Springfield will travel to take on Clark.
