New London, Conn. – October 1, 2023 - In its first match of the season, the Springfield College women's tennis team was edged by Connecticut College, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon. 

Connecticut College was able to pick up a pair of wins in doubles play by 8-6 decisions, while the team of Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) and Veronica Fulgieri (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) prevailed by an 8-4 margin at the No. 2 spot for the Pride. 

In singles play, Gabby Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) battled her way to a 4-6, 6-1, 10-5 triumph at No. 2, while Elliott cruised to a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 6.

This upcoming weekend, Springfield will stay local to compete in the NEWITT's.
