Northampton, Mass. – October 8, 2023 – The Springfield College women's tennis team wrapped up play this weekend at the New England Women's Intercollege Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) on the campus of Smith College.

The Pride were represented in the B Draw, C Draw and D Draw and had a pair of groups make it to the consolation semifinals of the C Draw.

In the B Draw, junior Ramida Manataweewat (Thailand, Bangkok) and graduate student Gabby Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) competed against Gordon College and won all three matchups. The duo won in doubles, 8-4, while both Manataweetwat (8-5) and Heaney-Second (8-4) won in singles to move on. The duo was swept against Julia Lendel and Emily Sivarak of Amherst in the second round.

In the C Draw, the duo of sophomore Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) and senior Kate Rosselli (Trumbull, Conn.) and the duo of sophomore Emma Aberle (West Warren, Mass.) and first-year Kapom Vettayawaikoon (Phuket, Thailand) reached the consolation semifinals. After falling to Wheaton's Izzy Kruse and Asia Hollis in the opening round, McGoldrick and Rosselli took two of three matchups, including an 8-5 doubles win, over Kate Vavra and Kennedy Bagley-Fortner of Mount Holyoke in the consolation bracket. Aberle and Vettaywaikoon were edged by Rachel Allen and Cal Smith, 2-1, in the first round, but bounced back for a sweep (8-3, 8-1, 8-2) over Gabby McGovern and Chase Stinson of Emerson to reach the consolation semifinals.

In the D Draw, junior Amy Brennan (Rochester, N.Y.) and classmate Jorja Mederick (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) won their singles matchups by 8-5 and 8-6 scores, respectively, to advance over Endicott's Abbey Fleming and Yolanda Mendonca.

Springfield will wrap up its fall slate with a non-conference matchup at Endicott College on Saturday, October 14 at 12:00 pm.
