Westwood, Mass. – November 13, 2023 – Five student-athletes from the Springfield College women's soccer team were recently named to the 2023 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference teams for their efforts this season.
Springfield College ranked second in the league for most All-Conference selections this fall with five, only behind MIT and Emerson, which both had six honorees.
Senior defender Gabby Scott (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Kayla McGrath (North Adams, Mass.) both earned spots on the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team, while senior forward Jen Walker (Webster, Mass.), sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Suller (Oviedo, Fla.) and sophomore forward Meredith Healy (Niantic, Conn.) all earned NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference accolades. Suller is the only repeat selection from the five as she was the 2022 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and a Second Team honoree.
McGrath led the team with eight goals and 17 points to go along with one assist as she set new career-highs in all three categories during her sophomore campaign. McGrath registered three, two goal efforts which came in a 9-0 win over Thomas, a 6-1 win over Salve Regina and a 2-0 win over Wellesley.
Scott was a crucial member of Springfield's defensive unit as she played and started in all 19 matches as a senior and helped the Pride to six shutouts on the year, the third most in the NEWMAC in 2023.
Walker ranked second on the Pride with five goals, three assists and 13 points in 19 games this year. Her five goals and 13 points were also a new career-high for the senior forward. Walker tallied both goals for the Pride in a 2-0 NEWMAC win over Clark on September 23 and found the back of the net in three other contests on the season coming against Western Connecticut, Salve Regina and Smith in the NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinals.
Suller matched her goal output from a season ago as she tallied four markers to go along with two assists for ten points during her sophomore season. Suller registered solo goals in both contests against MIT and also had one against Salve Regina and Mount Holyoke. Her four goals were third most on the team, while her assists and point totals ranked fourth for the Pride.
Healy notched three goals and six assists for 12 points as a sophomore. Her six assists were the most in a single season for the Pride since 2021 and three of those came in a 6-1 win at Salve Regina on September 17. Healy notched two goals in the season opener against Thomas and registered the Pride's first goal in a 2-0 win over Coast Guard on October 4.
Springfield finished the 2023 campaign with an overall record of 8-5-6 and a mark of 6-2-3 in conference play.
