Springfield, Mass. - November 15, 2023 - After going undefeated in regular season conference play and earning a spot in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, Springfield College was well represented in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Postseason Awards.
Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) was named the NEWMAC Athlete of the Year and Moira Long and her assistants were named NEWMAC Coaching Staff of the Year. Donahue was joined by Maeve Voltz (Bay Shore, N.Y.) on the all-conference first team, while Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.) landed on the second team.
Long powered Springfield to a 26-4 record heading into the national postseason as the Pride went undefeated in regular season conference play to claim the regular season crown and earn the top seed in the NEWMAC Championship. Springfield was one of 21 programs from across the nation to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Springfield coaching staff includes Long, graduate assistant coaches Emma White and Meredith Hollinger, and student manager Olivia Long. It's the fourth time that Long has been named the top coach in the NEWMAC, and first since 2018.
Donahue had an impressive junior season in leading Springfield to the top seed in the NEWMAC Championship Tournament and an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The junior leads the conference with 3.74 kills per set and 4.28 points per set in NEWMAC play. Overall, her 4.29 points per set also tops the NEWMAC and ranks in the top 50 nationally. With the Athlete of the Year honor, Donahue becomes the ninth student-athlete in program history to be recognized with the award, and the first since 2016.
Voltz has had a spectacular sophomore season and cemented herself as one of the top defensive players in the nation. Currently ranking the top 10 in Division III with 121 blocks, Voltz owns a .333 hitting percentage in the middle and has produced 233 kills for the Pride.
Billet continued to impact Springfield's effort with her all-around play, as she registered 276 kills, 253 digs, 49 aces, and 31 blocks en route to the first all-conference honor of her career.
Thanks to their efforts, Springfield will play in the NCAA Division III Championship First Round on Thursday morning at 11:30 am versus Wentworth at Juniata.
