Box Score Worcester, Mass. - February 1, 2023 - The Springfield College women's basketball team outscored Clark by a 45-18 margin in the second half as it powered its way to a 69-46 victory on Wednesday night in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
Springfield improved to 14-6, 4-1 against conference opponents, while Clark is 9-12, 0-6.
Jaélen Daubon (Hyde Park, N.Y.) was tremendous as she netted a career-high 20 points to go along with nine rebounds, while Sam Hourihan (Bridgewater, Mass.) produced 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four blocks. Both Rachel Vinton (Rutland, Mass.) and Lindsey Laughlan (Ellington, Conn.) scored 12 points and Angela Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Pride turned the ball over nine times in the first quarter, which led to 10 points for the Cougars as the hosts owned a 14-9 advantage after 10 minutes of play. Facing an 18-12 deficit, Springfield used an 8-1 push to regain a 20-19 edge on a Daubon putback with 3:42 left in the half. Clark would answer with a 6-0 burst of their own and hold a 28-24 halftime lead.
Inside the opening two minutes of the second half Clark extended its lead to 33-25, but the Pride would pour on a 19-1 run to open up a 46-36 lead following an inside finish by Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.). Springfield would force Clark into 10 turnovers which resulted in 13 points for the Pride as it went into the final quarter leading 46-38.
The final 10 minutes of action was all Springfield as it outscored Clark by a 23-8 margin, getting six points apiece from Hourihan, Laughlan, and Daubon. Clark would get within 11 with 5:19 left in regulation, but the Pride closed out the game on a 15-1 run as it pulled away with the conference victory.
Springfield will head back to Worcester on Saturday for an important conference game with WPI at 1 pm.
