Offense Impresses In Women's Basketball 81-47 Victory Over Emerson

Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - February 11, 2023 - The Springfield College women's basketball team scored its most points of the season as it ran past Emerson, 81-47, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest in Blake Arena on Saturday.

Springfield, which was receiving votes in the most recent D3hoops.com National Poll, is now 15-8, 5-3 in conference play, while Emerson slipped to 8-15, 3-5.

Five players scored in double figures for the Pride, led by Angela Czeremcha's (West Springfield, Mass.) game-high 14 points.  Sam Hourihan (Bridgewater, Mass.) contributed 13 points, five boards, four blocks, and four assists, while Kayla Madden (Ashland, Mass.) netted 12 points off the bench.  Both Rachel Vinton (Rutland, Mass.) and Jaélen Daubon (Hyde Park, N.Y.) scored all points, with Daubon handing out a career-best six helpers.  Springfield would own a 38-24 scoring advantage in the paint and held a 44-29 edge on the glass, including a 16-6 margin on the offensive boards.  Devin Hill had 14 points and six rebounds in the setback for Emerson.

Springfield jumped out to a 6-0 lead after Czeremcha knocked down a pair of free throws just over two minutes into the game.  After the Lions pulled within 9-7 with just over three minutes left in the frame, the Pride would close out the stanza on a 8-0 surge, getting a pull-up jumper along the baseline by Czeremcha, to make it a 17-7 ballgame.

Emerson would use a three-point play by Olivia Deslaurier with 4:36 remaining in the half to bring the Pride's lead down to 26-14, only to have Springfield blow open the game with a 19-5 surge to take a 45-20 advantage into the break.  Madden was the difference in the stretch as she scored 12 points to fuel a 28-point quarter for the Pride.

Springfield would push its lead to 32 points in the third quarter on a late putback by Lindsey Laughlan (Ellington, Conn.) and later put the game away in the fourth after scoring 20 points while shooting 50% from the floor.

Springfield heads to Coast Guard on Wednesday for a 7 pm showdown.
