Box Score Nashua, N.H. - February 22, 2023 - The Springfield College men's volleyball team toughed out a three-set road victory at Rivier on Wednesday night, winning by the set scores of 25-18, 25-22, 35-33.
Springfield, ranked fifth in this week's AVCA Division III National Coaches Poll, is now 13-2 as they defeated the Raiders for the second time this year. Rivier evened its record to 6-6.
The Pride's offense totaled 49 kills at a .315 clip in the victory, which was the second-highest team total for kills in a three-set match in the country this season. Jarrett Anderson (Largo, Fla.) erupted for 21 kills, eight digs, and two aces while hitting .429 on the right side, Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) racked up 39 assists, Noah Weislo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) contributed 11 kills, and Braden Gonzales (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) was credited with a match-high 11 digs.
Springfield would hit .419 in the opening set, with five kills coming off the arm of Anderson. Facing a 13-11 deficit, the Pride would use three kills from Anderson to key a 6-1 spurt as the Raiders called for a timeout. The Pride would coast to a 25-18 win as Mulvaney and Joel DeCamp (Simi Valley, Calif.) combined for a block on set point.
After building an 8-4 lead in the second off an Anderson kill, Rivier responded with a 9-4 push to gain a 13-12 edge. Out of the break, the Pride produced a 7-1 push en route to a 19-17 advantage. Rivier would tie things up at 19-19, but Springfield would score the next three points to take the lead for good as it held on for the 25-22 victory.
In a third set that featured 22 ties, Springfield would register 20 kills, with 10 coming from Anderson. After it built its largest lead of the set at 14-11 on an Anderson kill, Springfield would let match point slip away at 24-23. The Raiders would fight off seven more match points before Anderson and Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) delivered a block and Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) put away his fourth kill of the set for the 35-33 win.
Springfield will compete in a tri-match on Saturday with Emmanuel and Eastern Nazarene.
