Cambridge, Mass. - April 1, 2023 - The Springfield College women's tennis team was defeated by nationally-ranked MIT, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) showdown in the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble.
The loss moves Springfield to 4-6, 0-2 against conference opponents, while MIT, who was ranked third in the country in the most recent national poll, is now 6-2, 2-0.
In doubles play, Springfield's best outing came at the No. 1 spot as Ramida Manataweewat (Thailand, Bangkok) and Gabby Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) were bested by an 8-3 margin.
Heaney-Secord battled tough at the No. 2 singles spot in a 6-2, 6-2 setback, while Manataweewat was clipped by a 6-3, 6-0 score at the No. 1 position.
Springfield will hit the courts again on Tuesday when it hosts Clark at 3:30 pm.
