Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - April 11, 2023 - The Springfield College men's volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with a three-set sweep of visiting NYU in Blake Arena on Tuesday by the scores of 25-21, 25-20, 25-19.

Ranked sixth in this week's AVCA Division III National Coaches Poll, Springfield is now 23-4 on the year, while the Violets who were ranked 11th in the national rankings, are 12-9. Springfield will now await its postseason fate during the NCAA Division III Championship Selection Show which will air on NCAA.com on Monday.

Jarrett Anderson (Largo, Fla.) provided the highlight of the evening as he established new program records for aces in a season and in a career.  After recording three aces in the win, Anderson now has 88 aces on the season as he bested his previous record of 85 that he set a year ago.  In just his 78th match at Springfield College, he pushed his career total to 278, clearing the mark of 277 that Javier Placer posted from 1993-96.  The senior ended the night with a match-best 12 kills on a .450 clip, while Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) notched 30 helpers in leading Springfield to a .354 hitting percentage.  Joel DeCamp (Simi Valley, Calif.) had five blocks and four kills, Noah Weislo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) contributed seven kills, Chris Rouleau (Bay Shore, N.Y.) tacked on six kills on nine errorless attempts, and Evan Costley (Simi Valley, Calif.) turned in four of the Pride's 10 aces. Springfield held NYU to a .161 hitting percentage on the night.

Springfield went down 9-4 in the first following a Violets ace out of a timeout, but the hosts would rally to take a 13-12 edge after consecutive aces by Costley. In a set that featured nine ties and three lead changes, Springfield broke open a 19-all tie with a 3-0 burst fueled by a kill from Rouleau and ace by Costley.  Springfield would pull away with the 25-21 victory following NYU's ninth service error of the stanza.

Costley thumped an overpass kill to put the Pride ahead 13-9 as NYU called for an early timeout.  Anderson would later blast a kill off the block in transition to push the lead to 17-12, but the visitors would respond with a 5-3 push to get within 20-17.  Anderson would break the single season ace record with a winner down the line at 23-18 and Mulvaney forced the middle at set point for the 25-20 win following a kill by Rouleau to cap off a set where the Pride hit .458.

Anderson pounded out two-straight aces for the career record at 6-1 in the third as the Violets used a quick timeout.  The Pride's lead grew to 11-5 on a kill from DeCamp, only to have NYU battle back to within 15-13.  Anderson would crush a ball down the line in transition at 17-14 to kickstart an 8-1 run as the hosts cushion ballooned to 23-15 on another DeCamp kill.  Rouleau would then put away Springfield's 13th kill of the set for the 25-19 win as the Pride concluded the regular season with a 14-1 record at home.
