Springfield, Mass. - April 11, 2023 - The Springfield College women's tennis team powered its way to a 9-0 win over visiting Emerson in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday at Appleton Courts.
The Pride evened its record to 7-7 on the year, including a 3-3 mark against conference opponents.
Springfield was dominant to start the match in doubles play as Taylor Suozzo (Bedford, N.H.) and Kate Rosselli (Trumbull, Conn.) eased their way to an 8-0 win at the top spot, while the No. 2 team of Gabby Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) and Jorja Mederick (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) and the No. 3 squad of Veronica Fulgieri (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and Alysa Elliott (Gros-Islet, Saint Lucia) each picked up 8-2 wins.
Kelly McGoldrick (Monroe, N.Y.) produced 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 singles, while Suozzo and Fulgieri notched 6-0, 6-1 triumphs at No. 2 and 3 and Heaney-Secord added a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1. Emma Aberle (West Warren, Mass.) turned in a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 5 and Amy Brennan (Rochester, N.Y.) wrapped up the afternoon with her 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6.
On Saturday, Springfield is set to host Wheaton at 12 pm.
