Schenectady, N.Y. – September 16, 2023 – The Springfield College women's volleyball team concluded the Union/Russell Sage Crosstown Challenge on Saturday afternoon with a sweep of Nichols in the Viniar Athletic Center.

The Pride won by the scores of 25-19, 25-16, 25-13 and are now 10-1 on the year.  The loss was the second of the season for the Bison as they fell to 9-2.

Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) produced a match-best 10 kills, Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) accounted for eight aces and 23 assists, and  Ally Townsend (Hummelstown, Pa.) was credited with 12 digs. Maeve Voltz (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was impressive in the middle as she delivered eight kills and five blocks in the victory in helping Springfield limit Nichols to a .011 team hitting percentage.  For her efforts on the weekend, Donahue was named the MVP of the tournament and was joined by Colosimo on the All-Tournament Team.

Trailing 4-2 in the first, Springfield rattled off seven-straight points, highlighted by three-straight aces by Colosimo, to seize control of the set. The Bison would pull within 17-15, but Donahue would respond with back-to-back kills to kickstart the Pride's momentum as it pulled away for the 25-19 win. 

It was a fast start to the second stanza for Springfield as it raced out to a 15-4 lead and never looked back. Seven different student-athletes had at least one kill, with Olivia Nealy (Athens, Ga.) putting away the Pride's 12th kill of the set to seat the 25-16 win. 

Springfield took a commanding 16-4 lead in the third as it rolled to its fifth-consecutive victory by sweep.  In the third-set victory, Colosimo racked up five aces and led an offense that hit at a .429 clip. 

Springfield begins New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday when it hosts Wheaton at 7 pm.
