Springfield, Mass. – October 17, 2024 – The Springfield College field hockey team blanked Dean, 3-0, as it wrapped up non-conference play on Thursday night at Stagg Field.
Springfield moved to 5-9 with the win and Dean dipped to 7-8.
Springfield finished the game with a 22-1 advantage in shots and took eight of the game's 10 penalty corners.
After a scoreless first half, Springfield struck in the 38
th minute as
Kate O'Connor (Hampden, Mass.) redirected
Anna Beck's (Attleboro, Mass.) shot out of midair for what would prove to be the eventual game winner. The Pride doubled its lead at the 49:38 mark when
Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) left no doubt on her penalty stroke as she rattled it home. Springfield would close out the scoring in the 56
th minute after O'Connor took the ball to the endline before delivering a centering pass in front.
Kristyn Vasselin (Hudson, Mass.) jammed home her shot along the back post to make it a 3-0 contest.
Kaitlyn Parent (Glastonbury, Conn.) did not need to make a save en route to the shutout victory.
The Pride will travel to take on nationally-ranked Babson on Saturday for a 12 pm contest.
