Babson Park, Mass. - October 23, 2024 - The Springfield College men's soccer team battled tough against nationally-ranked Babson but was clipped by a 1-0 margin in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Wednesday afternoon.
The Beavers, who entered the contest ranked 11th in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Poll, boosted its record to 9-1-6, 4-0-1 in NEWMAC action. Springfield is now 5-7-2, including 3-2-1 in conference play. Babson had a 15-3 advantage in shots, including a 12-3 edge in the first 45 minutes of action and finished the afternoon taking seven of the game's nine corner kicks.Â
Babson was on the offensive from the opening whistle, connecting on three shots in the first five-plus minutes before Liam Rhatigan was able to get to the endline and get off a difficult, low angle shot into the back of the net for what would prove to be the game's only marker.
Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) finished the day with five saves for the visiting Pride. Â
Springfield now gears up for another important conference tilt as it hosts Wheaton on Saturday at 1 pm in its regular-season home finale.
