Springfield, Mass. – October 26, 2024 – The Springfield College men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Wheaton College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on Saturday evening on Brock-Affleck Field.
Springfield, which has now claimed at least a point in five of seven NEWMAC contests this fall, moved to 5-7-3 overall and to 3-2-2 in the conference, while Wheaton pushed to 6-5-5, 1-2-3. The Pride has one final NEWMAC game to play next Saturday and will enter that match with 11 points.
Today's draw between Springfield and Wheaton was just the third in the all-time series dating back to 1995 and first since the 2016 campaign. Wheaton statistically held a 20-8 advantage in shots (9-0 on goal) and an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
In net for Springfield,
Noah Pote (Washington, Conn.) was stellar making a season-high nine saves and picking up his second shutout of the year – the last coming as a 1-0 win at Emerson on September 21. Pote's nine saves was one shy of his career-high of ten which came last fall against Salve Regina on October 28.
Springfield's best chance of the match came early in the first when
Parker Thornton (Malden, Mass.) headed a shot just wide of the net and off a Wheaton defender.
Springfield will travel to Framingham State for its final non-conference match of the fall on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
