Cambridge, Mass. – February 10, 2024 – The Springfield College women's track and field team competed at both the Boston University Valentine Invitational as well as the MIT Gordon Kelly Invitational this weekend.
Gordon Kelly Invitational
First-year
Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.) guided Springfield at MIT as she finished first in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.07-seconds, second in the 60-meter dash in 8.02-seconds and third in the 200-meter dash in 27.69-seconds. Behind DeFosse in the 200-meter dash was sophomore
Madison Mulas (Wilmington, Mass.) in 28.06.
In the 5,000-meter run, senior
Kate Bonanno (Ellington, Conn.) registered a runner-up finish with a time of 18:31.46. Springfield also had two finishers in the top-10 in the 400-meter dash, 800-meter run and 1000-meter run. In the 400-meter dash, sophomore
Mackenzie DiDonato (Thomaston, Conn.) clocked a 1:05.97 for seventh and junior
Maeve D'Arcy (West Hartford, Conn.) clocked a 1:06.20 for eighth. In the 800-meter run, senior
Taylor Gibson (Billerica, Mass.), finished sixth in 2:33.78, while sophomore
Leah Castle (Ashford, Conn.) finished seventh in 2:34.04, while in the 1000-meter run junior
Elina Olmedo (Wakefield, Mass.) took fourth in 3:15.76 and first-year
Kayleigh Jensen (East Lyme, Conn.) took seventh in 3:24.65.
Senior
Sophie Curcio (New Canaan, Conn.) rounded out the highlights on the track for Springfield as she finished seventh in the mile in 5:30.99.
Junior
Samantha Paul (Albany, N.Y.) led Springfield in the field events as she placed second in the triple jump with a best mark of 11.11-meters (36 feet, 5.5 inches). Junior
Katelynn Taylor (Franklin, Mass.) posted a pair of seventh place finishes in the shot put and weight throw with marks of 11.13-meters (36 feet, 6.75 inches) and 13.83-meters (45 feet, 4.5 inches), respectively.
Junior Jillian Scott (Westhampton, Mass.) took tenth in the pole vault with a best clearance of 3.10-meters (10 feet, 2 inches).
Valentine Invitational
Senior
Gwen Andersen (Pawcatuck, Conn.) led Springfield at Boston University on Friday as she clocked a 26.29 in the 200-meter dash. Andersen was followed by
sophomore Kaitlyn Doherty (Wilmington, Mass.) in 26.52.
In the 400-meter dash, senior
Maggie Donohue (East Hampton, Conn.) posted a time of 1:02.41, while first-year
Julia Brillo (Ludlow, Mass.) notched a time of 1:03.43.
Springfield will host the Triangle Classic next Saturday, February 17 at 10:30 am.
