Auburndale, Fla. – March 11, 2024 – The Springfield College baseball team split its doubleheader against Muhlenberg College this afternoon on day two in Florida.
Springfield won the opener, 4-3, before Muhlenberg took the nightcap by a 6-3 final. The Pride are now 5-4 on the season. The Pride will continue their trip in Florida tomorrow afternoon with a nine inning game against Stockton at 12:30 pm.

Game One:
Ryan Riccio led off the game with a triple to left and scored the game's first run for Muhlenberg as Brendan Hughes lined an RBI single to center in the top of the first. Springfield answered with a run in the bottom of the second as the Pride loaded the bases before
Jack Dunaisky (Longmeadow, Mass.) plated
Ryan Sorgi (Braintree, Mass.) on a sacrifice fly.
With two outs in the bottom of the third,
Michael Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) reached on an error and then two batters later with the bases loaded,
Andrew Sweet (Charlton, Mass.) drove in Barrett and Sorgi on knock to right. Dunaisky followed with an RBI single through the left side and
Steve Cifarelli (Orange, Conn.) earned a bases loaded walk for a 4-1 advantage.
Colby Welch (Tampa, Fla.) was strong on the bump and earned his first win of the season as he went 5.2 innings, allowed three runs and struck out three before
Matthew Robinson (Fairfield, Conn.) earned the save by shutting down the final four batters of the game.
Muhlenberg got two back in the top of the sixth and with two outs in the frame Robinson got Marc Quarrie out to end the threat with Springfield ahead 4-3 heading into the final inning.
Game Two:
Muhlenberg scored first against in the nightcap on an RBI single to the gap and an RBI ground out for an early 2-0 edge. A three run homer by Quarrie in the third extended the Mules lead to 5-0.
Springfield took advantage of two errors in the top of the fifth and scored twice before the teams traded single runs in the bottom of the fifth and the top of the sixth to account for the 6-3 final.
Daniel Beagle took the win for Muhlenberg as he tossed 4.1 innings, scattered three hits and allowed two runs.
