Baseball Clipped By Stockton, 14-10

Auburndale, Fla. – March 12, 2024 – The Springfield College baseball team fell to Stockton University by a final of 14-10 in a non-conference contest played at the Lake Myrtle Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

Springfield evened its record to 5-5 on the year and will take on Roger Williams University on Wednesday evening at 5:00 pm.

The Pride used a pair of bases loaded walks and an RBI single by Andrew Sweet to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first before a groundout plated Ryan Sorgi (Braintree, Mass.) to account for Springfield's fourth run of the frame. Stockton answered with a single run in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Nick Avagnano as the score stood at 4-1 through one.

RBI singles by Nate Garafalo (Kinderhook, N.Y.) in the second and Mark Nofri (Naugatuck, N.Y.) in the third extended Springfield's lead to five at 6-1, but Stockton registered ten unanswered runs through the middle innings to go ahead 11-6.

In the top of the seventh, Springfield was able to cut its deficit to just one run at 11-10 as the Pride took advantage of an error, used two bases loaded walks and an RBI knock by Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) for the four run inning. R. Miller came out of the pen for Stockton and pitched the final 2.1 innings shutting the door for the Osprey's ultimately earning the save and the win, 14-10.

Lepere led the way offensively for Springfield with a 2-for-5 day with a run and an RBI. Eight different student-athletes notched at least one RBI for the Pride.
