Auburndale, Fla. – March 13, 2024 – The Springfield College baseball team fell to Roger Williams University by a 14-0, seven inning final on Wednesday afternoon at the Lake Myrtle Complex.
Springfield, now 5-6, will wrap up its trip to Florida with a game against St. Joseph's College of Maine tomorrow evening under the lights on field #2 at Lake Myrtle.
Springfield got a strong start from
Ryan Baker (North Reading, Mass.) who pitched three scoreless frames and struck out three before the bullpen allowed 14 runs over the final four innings of play.
In the top of the fourth, a walk and hit by pitch set up a three run homer for Owen Hibbard, who ended his day at the plate 3-for-5 with seven RBI. In the top of the sixth, the Hawks used seven hits to score six runs to push the advantage to 11-0 before a three run double to the gap by Hibbard in the top of the seventh accounted for the 14-0 final.
Springfield was only able to string together four hits off of the Roger Williams staff. Hawks starter Nick Gleason pitched four innings, allowed three hits and struck out four in his first win of the spring.
