Springfield, Mass. – April 16, 2024 – The Springfield College baseball team dropped a 5-0 decision to MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday afternoon on Archie Allen Field.
MIT improved to 10-13 overall and to 2-6 in NEWMAC play, while Springfield dropped to 14-14, 1-7.
Today's game was scoreless through seven innings and over that stretch both teams combined for only four hits – three from MIT and one from Springfield – on a base knock by
Adam Crocker (Windsor, Nova Scotia) in the bottom of the fourth.
MIT scored all five of its runs in the top of the eighth as the first tally came on a squeeze bunt by Reed Tubbs with runners on second and third following an error by the Pride. Kyle Sonandres then lined a two run single to right before a running play plated Teddy Schoenfeld and an base hit scored Sonandres.
MIT's pitching set Springfield down in order in six of nine innings as Karl Meyer. Chase Rubin and Brian Rapanan combined for nine strikeouts, just one hit and one walk as they split the game three innings apiece.
Springfield will host Clark University in a NEWMAC doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
