Springfield, Mass. – April 26, 2024 – After day one of the 2024 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Springfield College sits in fifth place with 15 points as the Pride competed on Friday afternoon at Blake Track.
No. 2 MIT leads the way with 82 points, Coast Guard is second (33), WPI is third (23), Wheaton is fourth (18), Springfield is fifth (15), Wellesley is sixth (13), Babson is seventh (6) and Mount Holyoke is eighth (5).
Jillian Scott (Westhampton, Mass.) had the best finish for Springfield as she placed fifth in the pole vault with a best clearance of 3.25-meters (10 feet, 8 inches). Behind Scott was
Ella Smith (Baldwinsville, N) in sixth (3.10-meter, 10 feet, 2 inches) and
Elizabeth Lewelling (Palmdale, Calif.) in eighth (2.95-meters, 9 feet, 8 inches).
Kate Bonanno (Ellington, Conn.) posted a sixth place finish in the 10,000-meter run in 39:17.12. Behind Bonanno was
Arianna Vessicchio (Wallingford, Conn.) in 12th in 41:51.88,
Meghan Sullivan in 13th in 42:00.28 and
Valerie Fox (Danbury, Conn.) in 14th in 44:10.20.
Bailey McDevitt (Wakefield, Mass.) paced the Pride in the javelin throw with an eighth place finish with a best mark of 32.47-meters (106 feet, 6 inches), while
Samantha Paul (Albany, N.Y.) led Springfield with a seventh place finish in the long jump with a best leap of 4.98-meters (16 feet, 4.25 inches) and
Madison Mulas (Wilmington, Mass.) took ninth in the long jump with a mark of 4.87-meters (15 feet, 11.75 inches).
Katelynn Taylor (Franklin, Mass.) led Springfield with an eighth place finish in the hammer throw with a best mark of 39.57-meters (129 feet, 10 inches).
In the heptathlon,
Jillian Barry (South Royalton, Vt.) sits seventh in the heptathlon with 1420 points.
Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.) will be the second seed in tomorrow's 100-meter hurdles finals after posting a time of 15.43 this afternoon in prelims.
Day two of the NEWMAC Track and Field Championships will begin at 10:30 am tomorrow morning.
