Springfield, Mass. - April 27, 2024 - The Springfield College men's track and field team finished second overall with 157 points at the 2024 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Saturday afternoon on Blake Track.
MIT, which took home its 22nd NEWMAC title, totaled 234 points and was followed by Springfield (157), Babson (151), WPI (150.5), Coast Guard (63.5) and Wheaton (42).
In total, Springfield saw four individual student-athletes claim NEWMAC titles this season and eight be honored with NEWMAC All-Conference accolades.
Anik Dole (Dubai, UAE) took gold in the 200-meter dash in 21.50-seconds and was followed by
Seth Regan (Killingworth, Conn.), who finished third in 21.72-seconds.
Mike Anderson (Cromwell, Conn.) crossed the line first in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.84-seconds in his first NEWMAC championship, while
Joe Wong (Salem, Mass.) finished first in the 800-meter run in 1:53.49.
Isaiah Hannah (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) followed Anderson in the 400-meter hurdles in fourth place (59.29), while
Tyler Knaggs (Scotia, N.Y.) placed eighth in the 800-meter run in 1:56.59.
The other individual NEWMAC championship title for the Pride came from
Brady Cote (South Hadley, Mass.), who won the decathlon with 4707 points.
Justin Manning (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took third in the 10-event marathon with 3546 points.
Rounding out the All-Conference honorees for Springfield was the 4x400-meter relay team of Anderson,
Sam Polley (Feeding Hills, Mass.),
Tyler Fabbri (Andover, Mass.) and
Colin Hansen (Ipswich, Mass.), who clocked a time of 3:23.23 for second place.
On the track,
Adam Mula (West Townsend, Mass.) finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:01.67, Anderson and Hannah took fourth (14.94) and eighth (16.08), respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles and Polley finished third in the 400-meter dash in 49.72. Regan,
Dante Lingley (Westbrook, Maine) and Dole took third through fifth in the 100-meter dash with times of 10.89, 10.93 and 10.94, respectively, while
Christopher Vayda (Southampton, Mass.) paced Springfield in the 5,000-meter run with a fifth place finish in 15:31.49.
The 4x100-meter relay team of
Giovanni Henrickson (Chelsea, Mass.), Hansen,
Anthony Penta (Southington, Conn.) and Lingley rounded out the highlights on the track with a third place finish in 41.66.
In the field events,
Daniel McGlashan (Haverhill, Mass.) paced the Pride with a third place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 13.04-meters, while
Ari Papadimitriou (Shelton, Conn.) took sixth with a jump of 12.17-meters. In the high jump,
Jamil Manu (Manchester, Conn.) and
Daniel Hyde (Monroe, Conn.) both cleared 1.95-meters, while
Peyton Blanchard (Kennebunk, Maine) took fourth in the shot put with a mark of 13.08-meters.
Connor Daley (West Springfield, Mass.) rounded out the individual highlights for Springfield with his fourth place finish in the discus with a toss of 39.89-meters.
Springfield will return to the track next weekend at the New England Division III Championships, which will be held on the campus of Mount Holyoke College.
