Springfield, Mass. – April 6, 2024 – The Springfield College baseball team earned a non-conference sweep over Rivier University on Saturday afternoon on Archie Allen Field. Springfield won the games by finals of 2-1 and 8-1.
Springfield improved to 13-10, while Rivier dropped to 4-15.
The Pride will return to NEWMAC play on Tuesday with a trip to MIT at 3:30 pm.

Game One: Springfield 2, Rivier 1
Rivier loaded the bases in the top of the second before a double play set up a chance for Springfield to get out of the inning without surrendering a run, but A. Gallicano drilled a single to left to plate J. Normand for the 1-0 edge. The Pride answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the second when
Andrew Sweet (Charlton, Mass.) plated
Michael Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) on a sacrifice fly.
Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) gave Springfield a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third as he lined a single to right to plate
Joseph Traversa (Pittsfield, Mass.). That is all of the runs Springfield needed as starter
Colby Welch (Tampa, Fla.) scattered six hits and earned his second win of the season.
Welch struck out four before
Mason Veronezi (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) completed the win and earned the save with a 1-2-3 top of the seventh.
Game Two: Springfield 8, Rivier 1
Senior
Connor Caverly (South Berwick, Maine) picked up the complete game win and registered his 100th career strikeout as the Pride earned the 8-1 victory to finish the sweep. Caverly notched 13 strikeouts, scattered five hits and allowed one earned run in seven innings.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth as Springfield loaded the bases before aa ground ball by
Ryan Duffy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) allowed
Adam Fine (Wynnewood, Pa.) to score. Rivier answered with one in the top of the sixth, but the Pride put together a seven spot in the bottom of the frame to secure the win.
An RBI single by
Ryan Sorgi (Braintree, Mass.) began the scoring, a sacrifice fly by
Jack Dunaisky (Longmeadow, Mass.) gave Springfield a 3-0 cushion and a two run double by
Luke DiMauro (Haddam, Conn.) extended the lead to five. Fine lined a sacrifice fly to right before
Ryan Delaney (Ellington, Conn.) scored on a wild pitch and
Mark Nofri (Naugauck, Conn.) scored on an error to account for the seven run inning.
Caverly allowed runners to reach second and third, but induced a double play and struck out the final batter of the game for his second win of the season.
