Kate Bowen from the Springfield College softball program were recognized by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with accolades following another outstanding season by the Pride.
Breannah McCann (Poway, Calif.),
Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.),
Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) and
Callie Gendron (Berlin, Conn.) earned a spot on the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team and
Ashley Pugliese (Long Island, N.Y.),
Alli Olsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) and
Emily Whelan (Hopkinton, Mass.) earned NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team honors.
In addition to these seven being recognized as All-Conference performers,
Kate Bowen,
Sam Garcia,
Vani Patel and
Lindsay Gauthier were named as the NEWMAC Softball Coaching Staff of the Year after they guided the Pride to its first NEWMAC regular season title since 2013 and a record of 29-10-1.
Pecchia, a utility player for the Pride, led Springfield with a .424 batting average and appeared in 40 games this year as she recorded three home runs, 30 RBI, 11 doubles, 53 hits and scored 20 runs in 125 at-bats, while McCann, Springfield's everyday shortstop, batted .393 with 44 hits, five doubles, 26 RBI and scored 24 runs. Gendron, who was one of the best catchers in the NEWMAC this season, batted .324 with three home runs, 34 RBI, 33 hits and scored 13 runs. She also threw out five runners from behind the plate.
In the circle, DeRosa and Pugliese were two of the best pitchers in the conference all year. DeRosa posted a record of 15-7 with a 1.86 ERA, 42 strikeouts and 16 complete games (six shutouts) in 131.2 innings of work, while Pugliese went 12-2 with a 1.79 ERA, 45 strikeouts and 13 complete games two shutouts) in 109.2 innings of work.
Olsen, Springfield's second baseman, batted .313 in 40 games, posted 36 hits, hit one home run and drove in 21 RBI. The senior scored 24 runs, hit three doubles and two triples and was a perfect 8-for-8 on stolen base attempts. Whelan, Springfield's right fielder, hit .374 to go along with nine RBI, three doubles, 34 hits, 15 runs and seven stolen bases.
