Four From Women's Track and Field Earn CSC Academic All-District Accolades

Springfield, Mass. – June 20, 2024 – Four Springfield College student-athletes from the women's track and field program have been named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team for their efforts on the track and in the classroom this year.

The 2024 Academic All-District® Women's Track and Field Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and compete in a specified number of team matches over the course of the calendar year.

Senior Kate Bonanno (Ellington, Conn.) and junior Samantha Paul (Albany, N.Y.) earned the award for the second consecutive season, while senior Stephanie Brown (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and junior Katelynn Taylor (Franklin, Mass.) were first time selections for the prestigious honor.

Bonanno, an exercise science major, led Springfield to a seventh place finish at the 2023 NEWMAC Cross Country Championships and was the Pride's top finisher in 32nd place in 25:10.5. Bonanno recorded collegiate best times on the track as well in four different events including the 800 (2:40.47), 3,000-meter (10:47.07), 5,000-meter (18:31.46) and 10,000-meter (38:15.37) runs. She individually placed sixth in the 10k during the NEWMAC Championships in a time of 39:17.12.

Paul, a communications and sports journalism major and now a three-time All-Region selection recorded a new personal best in the triple jump at the AARTFC Indoor Championships with a mark of 11.62m. During the outdoor postseason, Paul took fourth in the triple jump at the New England D3 Championships (11.51m), fifth in the triple jump at the AARTFC Championships (11.49m) and seventh in the long jump at the NEWMAC Championships (4.98m).

At the NEWMAC Championships held on Springfield's Blake Track, Brown finished 11th in the 100-meter dash (12.98) and 15th in the 200-meter dash (26.72).

Taylor was Springfield's nest thrower this year as a new collegiate best in the weight throw at the New England D3 Championships with an eighth place finish (14.52m) and then set new collegiate bests in three different events during the outdoor season including the hammer (39.97m), discus (34.90m) and shot put (11.92m).
